They think action means shake the camera as wildly and quickly as possible.

There's no way she could be this bad at driving, it's said in the first movie she had her license revoked which means she had to be good enough to get one in the first place.

Do cops really hang out the window while using the loud speaker on their car?

Hold your fire he's too far? It's like 100 foot at most. What are they using, stones?

He's awfully clean for someone who just rolled down a hill.

Oh she just found out he's a crazy guy. Wow what an awesome plot <sarcasm>

The guy was in a high speed pursuit and he just happens to have tickets for a cruise ON HIM? Oh my god... The dialogue is so awful too.

A cruise liner... Ok people, definition of fast transportation? Who said Plane? Who said car? Anyone say bus? No of course not because the first thing anyone would think of is a god damned cruise liner.

Ah Willem Dafoe, what a handsome chap?

That's wtice for the whole 'we're not married' gag... Twice too much if it was written by actual talented writers rather than hacks.

If this was real life he'd have thrown her overboard already.

The editing is awful. Is it THAT hard to get audio and visual to sync up? Apparently so.

Oh, his cop sense is tingling, he's not watching the golf but he's a fan... ZOMGZORZ

Ah, jars of leeches, the breakfast of champions.

Golf club bombs. I wonder has anyone actually tried that?

Fat people.. Talking about how its great being fat. What a message that's sending out.

Ah, jewells well their we go, just incase a big sign saying THE GUY WANTS TO STEAL JEWELLS was a bit too much.

I guess we're supposed to feel sorry for the little deaf girl with the crush on the cop but she's just annoying... I think she might also be a robot.

Oh he knows sign language too. What a legend.

Oh god this whole marriage thing is so annoying.

Haha he just got burneddddddd.

Dafoe is up to something, slippery devil.

Ah the old, set off the sprinklers to distract everyone trick.

How can you call a movie speed when the speedometer on the boat reads 18.... 18! Oh my god... The pace...

I think those golf ball bombs are the only good thing about this movie.

Lazy bastards. The boat has autopilot...

Now this is a scene that every movie needs, a man that looks like a gargoyle attached leeches to himself.

Ok, so now we've established there's guns on board and that the cop is a good shot.

Wow must be cold on this caribbean cruise... ;)

Finally somebody gets hit in the face with something. What an exciting movie.

Boats off course. AND WE CANT TURN OFF THE AUTOPILOT. Dun dun dun!!!!

The dialogue is so horrendous...

Why do villans always tell people who they are?

Ah the captain got thrown over board. Oh the excitment.

That deaf girl has to be a robot.

THAT GUYS SO RIGHT.. She does look like a clown. *cue circus music*

Just to add more insult to the fact the movie's named speed and is about the fasted mode of transport... a cruise boat... They decided.. That just wasnt fast enough... Lets turn off the engines altogether. now THAT's speed.

Oh, there's a shock he was about to say something important but was interrupted. that's not cliche at all....

Ok, all the glass is breaking and the engines are exploding. hooray.

Is that guy supposed to be scottish?

How can the crew hear the phone? This is like die hard with it's loudspeaker pay phones.

ABANDON SHIP.

Seriously? Is peoples first reaction to the signal to evacuate is to assume it's nothing and wander about aimlessly?

Deaf girl stuck in lift.

OK, so boats stopped, guys got the diamonds. I mean they could end this torture pretty soon.

The level of suspense is killing me.. Oh wait that's boredom.

Ah so now the cop knows there's a 'guy'

Boats moving again... Wait... Didn't the engines not like.. I dunno.. Explode???

Oh god... Is this 'lifeboat hanging in the air' supposed to be like a parallel to the elevator scene in the first movie? Eugh lazy lazy lazy writers.

This is so dramatic. I guess the rain is supposed to emphasis that.

Eugh... when will directors ever learn... ONLY USE SLOW MOTION WHEN IT'S SHOT WITH A CAMERA CAPABLE OF RECORDING IT OTHERWISE IT LOOKS LAMER THAN A SCI FI CHANNEL MOVIE.

The deaf kid just did some spiderman move to get out of lift.

Boat's gonna hit a cliff. If only it did.

Ok, so now they know who it is thanks to Jason Patric's obsession with balls.

Just in case we didn't hear it earlier. Now the villan is explaining who he is again.

This movie would be so better if the boat was a giant robot.

Eugh. I could get shot in the face and still write better dialogue than this.

The little girl just pried open elevator doors with her hands. In the first movie they have to jam a screwdriver in it just to hold it open.

Explain to me any situation on a cruise liner that would ever... EVER require not one.. but TWO CHAINSAWS.

Ah flood the ship, what a spledid idea.

The chainsaw wasn't even running o.O

The deaf girl's in the room that's about to be flooded.

Too bad, they both survived.

That was painful... So painful... The deaf girl loves the cop.

I love that massive sign saying "Ship's Vault"

OH COME ON FOR F*** SAKE. THAT SHOTGUN WAS SUBMERGED IN SEA WATER ABOUT 5 MINUTES AGO AND IT'S STILL WORKING?

Oh, it's ok ladies and gentlemen, the villan has explained who he is again.

Seriously all that effort to disarm the grenade? How strong can that little wire tied to the pin be.

Boats gonna crash into another extremely slow boat. Yeah this is Speed bitches.

Here we go again, in the first movie the guy went under the bus, in this movie the guy goes under a boat... Yeah... Ok ...

OK, if we were to go by the speed the boat was travelling on the tankers radar. It should crash in the next 15 seconds. Alas it's still ages away.

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL the writer or writers deserve a punch in the face. A really hard punch.

The ropes are tangled, what a shock.

I wish he would get sucked into the propeller. That would be awesome.

Again with the awful slow motion.

Does that speedboat have wheels? How exactly did it just ramp out the back of the cruise liner?

Eugh the only thing about this movie that's speedy is how it brings on depression.

Yay they're turning the boat so we can have more pointless 'suspenseful' moments

Oh my god they turned at the last moment. I never saw that coming. Such clever writers they have.

They're gonna hit a town now.

Wow those actors look soooooooooooo paniced

Oh the anchor's jammed. What could possibly go wrong next?

God damn hippies deserved to have their boat crushed.

At least stuff is getting destroyed now.

But again, the boats slowing down.

Boat hit's town. You know in real life people would be killed left right and center.

They crashed into the coca cola truck. Those bastards.

Boat's stopped.

Oh I forgot sandra bullock's character is still alive.

Ah Tune Man. The only recurring character I'm pleased to see.

Hang on, so Sandra Bullock's character gets away from Dafoe's character. Who has the diamonds he planned on stealing. Why is he bothering to chase her? He doesn't need her anymore.

Oh come on, shooting a plan with a spear gun? Oh dear

Plane crashes into mast on tanker.

Just let her drown. Nope, he just had to save her didn't he.

Tanker blew up.

You know michael bay would have just found an actual tanker and blown it up if he directed this.

Eugh cheesey romantic scene.

It's over... Thank god.

My eyes.. My poor eyes..

Terminator 3 (Bordem Commentary)

Someone suggested this, I'm pretty pissed off tonight so I figured I'd do a bit of a commentary on it.

Here we go

What else has Johnathan Mostow directed? Anything? Hmmm

God this voice over is so crap.

Ohhh Splosion...

Oh god, the voice over.. Just shut up.

Some judgement, makes me wanna see T4.

Oh a builder, John Connor is Average Joe.

He lives "off the grid' You legend ya...

He just dropped a perfectly good beer off a bridge.

Look at all them robots.

Eugh close up they look pants.

HE'S STILL GOD DAMN TALKING!!!

Awwww he crashed his motorbike... Poor bike...

Wow convienient that the chick terminator transported into the window of a female clothes shop.

And why exactly did she show up in a giant disco ball?

Wow another coincedencem the first person she found had cloths that fitted her, and hair straigheners apparently.

SHES TALKING PHONE SIGNAL. Jesus h christ.

And hang on, she's the ultimate terminator, why is she speeding, not like she needs to be in a rush because nothing can stop her.

Oh, the police pulled her over.

Wow inflatable boobs. Funny how the jacket had just enough sag to allow that to happen.

Ah the chick of the movie and her fiance. That guy deserves to die just for looking lie that.

Aw daddy is bailing agian boo hoo.

This dialogue is just cheese. Awful.

Half the internet has a virus apparently. Wahey.

But don't worry, the genius americans have a solution.

Oh, here comes Arnie. In another giant disco ball.

You'd think with all that time travel technology they could send them back in clothes.

So apparenly Arnie's attire was simply just a male strippers outfit.

Is this supposed to be funny? haha he put on chicks glasses ahahaha oh wait thats just f***ing stupid.

Ok, so despite the fact that John Connor sent back the terminator in T2 he decided, na lets not teach it anything, lets wait till NEXT time I have to send one back.

Woop, some stupid teens are about to get waxed.

Kids dead.

I haven't seen one thing in this movie so far that could be considered smart.

Wow that's handy, a cage big enough to fit a person in, in a vet. In case someones pet bear gets sick.

Even the terminator universe has a crazy cat lady.

Oh come on how could she possible know it's the same guy from year ago that she made out with.

Hang on are the female transformers movements supposed to look robotic? What a plank.

Wow she even managed to get her ears pierced since she arrived too.

I think the female terminator just orgasmed after licking some blood. Charming.

Why smash the window if she was just going to pull the door off?

Eugh the movements are just awful.

Wow that look of shock looked genuine *rolls eyes*

Female terminator just fingered a police car. Now for some strange reason all the emergency vehicles are fitted with servos for acceleration, braking and steering, obviously just in th off chance that some day they be needed for use as giant remote control cars. Well that was handy.

This movie would really benefit from some Christian Bale

That's one fast ass crane.

Now, if Michael Bay had directed this chase seen, it might be good.

Eugh the footage is so obviously sped up.

The crane is seriously the only good thing about this movie.

Even the best seen with the crane, where the cable gets caught and it flips, is still ruined by shoddy cgi.

Hmm, the front of the jeep john connor is driving has magically been fixed.

I thought arnie was a t-800? not a t-101. hmmmm

Aw poor arnie's battery is damaged, someone get him some duracell.

"Talk to the hand" The director/writers deserves to be kick severly in the nuts for that.

Oh the back of the can they're in has been magically fixed too.

Actually, Look at the size of john connors eyebrows.

Oh, coffin full o' guns. I want.

Terminator doesn't appreciate being shot in the face.

The guy playing John Connor is a terrible actor.

That guy just got fisted... Eugh

Random unnecesary character cameo from the second movie.

Worst swat team ever, they all have automatic weapons shooting at the hearse and nobody can manage to hit one of the tires?

Wow all those sparks from cutting through a FABRIC roof? Genius. Sparks = Cool Yayzorz.

The amount of sped up footage in this movie is a joke.

Termintrix... Jesus...

John Connor's gone emo. Got a gun to his head. Boo hoo. Just do it, save me the next half hour.

Arnie kills John Connor in the future. That's good to know.

Terminatrix is fingering a robot now.

Teraflops. Lol

Oh noes, the computer's taken control.

Military guy just got gunned down.

Oh god 'she'll be back' Why do you hate people, writers of this movie?

HANG ON. The robot doesn't have arms, just guns. How the hell did it operate the lift?

I'd swear they just used a soundeffect from Goldeneye for the N64

Such bad CGI.

That chick took the whole, 'move like a robot' thing too far. Ohhhh action packed stuff.

Poxy American patriotism crap now. "Oh look we laned on the moon" pity the majority of you are stupid.

Oh lurking shadow over the moon. I'm scared.

ARGH ALIENS!!!! Oh wait, I've seen this movie 100's of times, I knew that was gonna happen.

Oh and R.E.M song.

The alien signal dun dun dun. sounds kinda like a modem trying to connnect.

It's coming from the moon... Run for your lives.

It feels like a made for TV movie.

Oh look it's Bill Pulman and that chick from BSG.

No you're not 'sleeping next to a beautiful young brunette' YOU'RE AWAK GOD DAMN IT.

The little satelitte crashed into the space ship, funny how it had to break out of earth's orbit to do that.

It's the FLY. Well, Jeff Goldblum anyway. And stereotypical jewish father.

What;s with that guys voice? Sounds like he's about to cough up a lung.

Ah here are the rednecks, can't have a decent American film without Rednecks.

Here comes the worst threat ever. "If your fathers not in the air in 20 minutes.. I'm getting someone else" Ohhhh scary.

That young greasy haired chap totally wants to be Keanu Reeves.

Ah, the drunk pilot. Hooray.

Now that I think about it the opening of this movie sucks ass.

Oh the alien ships are heading to earth. The look like frisbies.

I want one of those cool metal briefcases.

There's one of them there alien ships.

Oh we're on a submarine. That infrared bit makes no sense.

The Russians went nuts, what a surprise.

The AWACS just got all messed up. Fire balls yay exciting.

Obama would have handled this differently.

Oh what a coincidence. It's his wife in the white house. That's handy for the plot eh?

More hicks. Actually, this movie has far too many redneck hicks.

Worst CGI ever.

Nearlly time for big willy's grand entrance.

There he is!!!!

This movie is so gripping. Oh wait. No, its not, in anyway.

Ah black kids playing basketball stereotype. Check!

That space ship makes me want pizza o.O

The Fly just figured out what the 'signal' is dun dun dun.

Home and Away is more believable than this.

Will Smith is Will Smith in Independence Day. Actually he just plays himself in every film he's in really.

You know I'm actually suprised that when Will Smith spots the space ship he didn't go 'DAMN!'

Oh come on just blow up the cities already.

Space ships make people angry apparently.

There's about as much emotion in this movie as a gathering of serial killers.

How did that guy just manage to cock a double barrelled shotgun? It doesn't have a cocking handle, it doesn't make that noise.

I hate this scene. I'm so glad that character gets killed, can't remember his name.

NASA don't like Will Smith.

This wedding ring scene is garbage. Who wrote this thing. God damn Emmerich, has he actually ever made a good film?

WOOOO STRIPPER.

What superb acting, really sucking me into the movie. Oh wait, not just sucking.

Eugh Goldblum using an Apple computer, the shame.

Aliens have arrived, what's the first course of action? Oh of course, lets strap a laod of lights to the side of a helicopter. Nothing says 'don't annihilate our speices' like a f***ing light show.

Haha funnily enough the black guy dies first. Cliche Much?

Most of the characters so far actually deserve to die.

Hey that guy looks like Peter Schmeichel.

BOOM!

Now people start to die, about time.

That guy just summed up the movie. "Oh, crap"

The CGI is so bad.

This movie really just makes me want pizza.

Ah another ridiculous scene, the part in the tunnel where they hide in a maintainence room. but, the dogs outside OH NOES. But the dog jumps in just before the flames hit him, seemingly ignoring the fact that flames that size, that close to the dog, would melt all it's hair off and no doubt kill it.

Hicks again, and not a banjo to be seen.

Wow what a subtle reminder the president was a fighter pilot... Eugh come on put in a little effort.

So the space ship is supposedly over the city but on the wideshots there's mountaines everywhere.

Oh a forcefield. More drama.

Man in Plane 0 Forcefield 1

Haha those laser sound effects are hilairious. Pew pew pewpewpew

Ohhh splosions....

Yay Jimmy's about to die... Anddddddddddd...... BOOM!

This is such a shockingly bad movie, I still like it though o.O

So he's out of fuel already? Surely that means if the plan had have worked out he wouldn't have had enough to make it back to base.

Alien ship 0 Parachute 1

Will Smith shouts at aliens.

Will Smith also punches aliens in the face, nice chap. Eugh those one liners were so bad. "Welcome to earth" "Now that's what I call a close encounter"

Oh noes, nukes... The horror.

Oh it's the first lady, she survived a helicopter crash into a wall of fire. Impressive.

Will Smith also kicks defenseless aliens.

Look at all those caravans. It's like a moving Darndale o.O

Adam Baldwin YAY. Not as cool as he is in Firefly though.

Ah ye olde crazy scientist.

Oh look they have a space ship. I'm so shocked. The suspense in this film is overwhelming.

Oh god there's still an hour left.

This movie would really benifit from giant robots.

Apparently all you need to get passed security at Area 51 is about 200 winnebagos.

Oh my god this is painful.

Ah an alien autopsy, not cliched at all.

The hand is moving dun dun dun.

Look at the tentacles on that thing.

Nice to see aliens disobey the laws of physics when they're shot in movies too.

Adam Baldwin just shot the alien in the face.

Goldblums gotten into the booze.

Is that Ray Liotta as a pilot of one of the B2's?

Funnily enough it kinda looks like Jimmy Pop in the little tank thing.

Woop nuclear explosions are always good.

Aw it didn't work. I wish it had so this movie would end.

The first lady died with all the emotional impact of standing in a small puddle.

Goldblums gone nuts.

Ah, brain wave surely a virus written on earth computers will take down the far superior alien technology. GENIUS! It can't fail. Oh wait, it's a movie, it can't =(

I wish when he tried shooting the coke can that the bullet ricocheted and killed someone.

Yup the virus idea worked. That's so plausible. The writers were so smart.

Will Smith can also fly alien space ships. What a guy.

It still flies. What a shock.

The music is so cheesey.

That arabic guy looks like the fat guy that had Tony Stark prisoner in Ironman.

Surely the launcher they just attached to the bottom of the space ship would be disintegrated in earths atmosphere. Hmmm.

Eugh wedding scene.

This speech is pure cheese. but it's still brilliant.

Triumphant music, everyone cheers. I shudder at the cheese that just took place.

Oh I almost forgot (not) the president is a pilot.. dun dun dun

Oh we couldn't save the world without cigars now could we?

Awful Awful effects. The movies they show on the Sci fi channel have better effects.

Eugh, why do we have to save the hicks?

Ok, so the door of the mother ship is wide open, in space, yet we see battallions of aliens lining up below that as stated earlier ALL BREATH OXYGEN. Hmmm.

Nope, Shield's still working suckers.

We try again. Shock horror its down. Who expected that?

Aw they're stuck in the mother ship... Boo hoo.

Oh noes destroy the big gun. Aw the missle missed.

Haha terrible CGI when the plane blew up the missle on it's wing became translucent

Hick pilot to the rescue. Aw but the missle is stuck.

Just crash into it already.

BOOM!

Alien ships are no match for recneck pilots crashing into them. Cue triumphant music.

Oh the dialogue is so atrocious.

Ah lets wave at the aliens.

Oh the dramatic escape from the mother ship. Oh noes the door is closing. Will they escape? Of course they will.. Sigh

BOOM! nuclear explosion number 2 for this movie.

ZOMG they survived hooray! I care so little.

I am happy that the movie is almost over though.

"Didn't I promise you fireworks?" Eh you did, but you also gave him the fireworks earlier on in the movie. Eugh.

It's over. Just thought I'd make some observations.

If the dad at the start had have just stood back in the storm shelter rather than trying to hold the door closed he would have survived.

That helicopter shot over the wheat fields towards the start is really good.

Oh look, the annoying tourist from Speed.

Philip Seymor Hoffman reminds me of Mikey Teutul in this.

Those sensors look kinda like sperm o.O

Oh my god that guy with the baseball hat has horrific teeth.

That guy from Lost is in this, play Fareday or something on Lost.

Storm Chasers on Discover is better than this.

I'd swear the John Deer tractor moved between shots.

Hey look it's that guy from Saw and Hot Shots.. Cary Elwes.. how do you pronounce that?

You know I reckon that's the only black guy in the movie standing in the background.

I'd swear Helen Hunt has a mustache.

This scene is so stupid "You're still in love with him, aren't you?" Eugh, who wrote this crap?

Black guys called Charles. I wonder if he'll appear again?

I want the Barn Burner.

Why is the guy in the station wagon on his own?

Why would a guy complain about a chick 'marrying' their penis?

This movie would have been a lot shorter if they'd crashed into that combine harvester.

I don't know most of the characters names.

Oh look a tornado. That's 2 in half an hour, in a movie about tornados.WTF?

So when they're inside the jeep there's trees going by the window. But when the camera switches outside it's a wheat field. Hmmm.

Oh those trees appeared out of nowhere. Worst editing ever.

Hang on, The dent on the front of the jeep just fixed itself.

Hmm the tornado could life a 4x4 and an old tractor, but could destroy an old wooden bridge...

The jeep that landed on the road keeps changing position.

The helicopter shots are really good. Pity about the rest of it.

Seriously? What is keeping that cow in the air?

Jeep vs Direct hit by 2 tornados.. Car wins... Something's not right.

I wonder if anyone will read this far.

Are female sculptors called sculptors or sculptresses?

Oh great Helen hunts in the shower... She should shave too.

Uh this F5 bit is so crap. I'd love to find the scriptwriter and punch him in the face.

Also, Helen Hunt takes her fashion advice from John McClane, white vests FTW.

Look, it's a Van Halen song.

That weird tornado instrument pack thing would really benifit from just having one switch to turn it on.

Ohhhh emotional confrontation... The drama!!!!

The tornados coming... Dun dun dun.

This movie would be so much better with giant robots.

Man got hit in face with hubcap.

Awwww the chicks leaving him... Boo hoo...

So the womans house is pretty much destroyed yet her sculpture is still standing unharmed in the garden.

Ah right, it's still standing because it's a plot point. Eugh.

Woah Woah Woah... They were in a town that just got destroyed by a tornado, where in the hell did they find all those drink cans?

Oh come on.,.. The tornado lift an oil tanket truck that HITS the front of the jeep but the jeep doesnt get lifted? Argh I hate you whoever made Twister.

Man gets owned by radio antenna. Best part of the movie. Must be nearlly over at this stage.

So the house rolls onto the road. Ends up laying on its right hand wall. They drive through the front window and straight UP the stairs? Those people must have had a stair case mounted sideways on their wall. Genius.

OH Corn!

Hooray they put balls in the tornado.

Hey that somes up the movie. The tornado just SUCKED BALLS. Thank you i'm here all week.

Dun dun dun dun. The tornado is chasing them. Didn't know forces of nature held grudges.

Oh come on just end already.

Ah hello pointless romantic scene.

Thank god it's over.

It's now almost 6.30am and I think it's time to sleep.

Kudos to anyone who reads all that.

And to anyone that just skips to the end, I hate you!

Who Watches The Watchmen? I do

Well, I've just returned from a preview screening of Zack Snyder's movie adaption of Alan Moore's Watchmen. Being a fan of the graphic novel I had high hopes going into this film but as it turns out, it was the people who hadn't read the book that seemed to get the most enjoyment out of it. First off the bat, the visuals are stunning. There was so much to see and so much that makes you think back to the novel that it will probably take a few screenings before you can absorb it all. Unfortunatly, great visuals don't make a great movie. While the spirit of the graphic novel is present for the most part, it doesn't draw you in like the comic does, in fact I feel it may even alienate some fans.

The acting in general is decent enough. My big worry about the cast was Matthew Goode as Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias but suprisingly enough I quite liked his portrayal of the smartest man on the planet. Patrick Wilson as Dan Dreiberg/ Nite Owl II is solid as is Malin Akermans Silk Spectre II. Jefferey Dean Morgan does well in his role as Edward Blake/ The Comedian but I feel he could have used a bit more screen time to really get people to start feeling sorry for him as many did in the book. Bill Crudup as Dr. Manhattan is an interesting combination and for the most part it works, his voice is somber and distant as it should be, my biggest gripe with his role is that the scene on Mars depicting all the different moments in his life is almost completely wasted and what could have been a spectacular moment in the movie is reduced to a small little narrative. If there's any weak links in the cast they're Carla Gugino as Silk Spectre and Laura Mennell as Janey Slater, for me their scenes felt forced.

The outstanding performance in this movie has to be Jackie Earle Haley as Walter Kovacs/Rorschach. He's exactly like I imagined him from the comic. The gravely voice and unmoving devotion to justice are intact and his character is by far the most interesting in the entire movie. Despite his character being a violent sociopath he will more likely than not be most peoples favourite character. The scenes of him being interviewed by the psychiatrist are superb, funny despite their grusomeness. It makes the ending all the more impacting on the audience.

The effects in the movie are OK, nothing spectacular. Dr. Manhattan is decent enough but some of the other effects are noticably computer generated. Another one of my problems with this movie was the music. The period correct songs are great at times but totally awkward and misplaced at others. The score itself is just background music, nothing memorable.

This movie will appeal more to the people who haven't read the graphic novel but hardened fans will be left thinking what might have been. Hopefully the directors cut will go a long way to fix the problems that exist.

There's no denying that Watchmen is a good movie, but it's not a great movie and it definatly could have been.

I give it 7/10

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://moviepanda.blogspot.com/2009/03/who-watches-watchmen-i-do.html' title='Who Watches The Watchmen? The supposedly, unfilmable Watchmen by writer Alan Moore is being brought to the big screen by Zack Snyder, Director of hit movie 300. Although it may be less than a month away, it mightn't have turned out that way. The production of Watchmen was hit by controversy when Fox decided to sue Warner Bros because supposedly they hadn't the proper rights to make this movie. A movie which Fox had declined to make over a number of years. Maybe Fox did have a case, and it was settled eventually but to a lot of people it seemed more like Fox trying to get an undeserved cut of the big money this movie will no doubt make at the box office.

Onto the movie itself. With less than a month to go, marketing has been ripe for this comic book adaption. We've had several trailer and now tv spots are beginning to emerge. The book, written by Alan Moore in 1986 and is heralded as one of the best graphic novels ever to be put on paper. I think fans of the graphic novel will be thankful that it's Zack Snyder that's helming this adaption as from whats been seen so far, he's being pretty faithful to the source material which is a rare thing in Hollywood, especially for such a dark and dense story as Watchmen has.

The story for the most part, remains unchanged. The theatrical release will, of course be a slimmed down version of the original story line but Snyder plans to release a fans edition on DVD which will not only be an extended version of the theatrical cut but will include the story within a story "Tales of the black freighter" and also the "Under the hood" segment from the graphic novel making it a must have for Watchmen fans.

The only bone of contention the fans have really had with Snyder's take on Watchmen is the ending. If you've been in anyway following the production of this movie you'll know that for a long time the ending was up in the air. Nobody knew if it stuck to the book or not, eventually Snyder and Dave Gibbons(who drew the original Watchmen comics) said that the ending had indeed been changed in a very slight way but it was still enough to irritate fans.

Now, lets get onto the main players in this movie adapation of Watchmen. First up, one of the fan favourites from the comic.

Rorschach/Walter Kovacs - Jackie Earle Haley
Haley is playing the raspy voiced anti-hero with the ever changing mask. Haley is known for his role in 2006's All The Kings men for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for best Supporting actor. You might also have seen him as stoner Dukes in Will Ferrells comedy Semi-Pro

The Comedian/Edward Blake - Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Probably best known for his role as Denny on TV shot Grey's Anatomy, Morgan also had roles in recent romantic comedies, The Accidental Husband and PS, I love you.

Ozymandias/Adrian Veidt - Matthew Goode
Goode is known for roles in 2005's Match Point and the recent Brideshead Revisited and is outwardly suprised at being cast as Watchmens Smartest man in the world, Adrian Veidt.

Silk Spectre/Sally Jupiter - Carla Gugino
This isn't the first comic book outting for Gugino, you might remember her as Lucille in Sin City. She has also appeared in many other films including 1998's Snake Eyes with Nicholas Cage and 2007's American Gangster.

Silk Spectre II/Laurie Juspeczyk - Malin Akerman
A relative unknown, Akerman had appeared in several TV shows including The Comeback and Entourage. Her biggest movie role to date was alongside Ben Stiller in The Heartbreak Kid.

Niteowl II/ Daniel Dreiberg - Patrick Wilson
Seen in Hard Candy and Lakeview Terrace alongside Samuel L Jackson, Wilson takes on the role of the second Niteowl.

Niteowl/Hollis Mason - Steven McHattie
From movies such as A History of Violence and Shoot 'em up, McHattie plays the original
Niteowl and writer of the book Under the Hood, and important part of the original Watchmen graphic novel.

Dr. Manhattan/ Jon Osterman - Billy Crudup
Seen in the recent Tom Cruise sequel, Mission Impossible 3, Crudup takes on the role of the only character in the Watchmen universe with actual superpowers, and plays a pivotal role in the story of Watchmen.

Watchmen is released worldwide by Warner Bros. March 6th. Now...

If McClane had just stayed in the cab, both he and Carver would have made it on time and beat Simon's challenge, although he still probably would have set off the bomb because that was the point...

I just though it was another bit of silly writing, although it is plausible that someone might make a stupid decision like that.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://moviepanda.blogspot.com/2009/02/movie-logic-die-hard-3.html' title='Movie Logic??? Die Hard 2

Every now and then I'll do one of these, now this is more question the characters actions than anything else. You know, why they did this or didn't do that. It seems in some movies, the people just keep making the wrong decisions (yes it's written that way but ignore that for a minute)

So Die Hard 2, John McClane is caught up in a terrorist plot at an airport involving taking control of the tower and securing the release of a political prisoner. That's fair enough, John McClane takes offense the terrorists messing with his wife's plane and does the only thing he knows how, kicks some ass.

Now, here comes my problem with the terrorist's planning( and as usual it's caused by "clever" Hollywood writing). The prisoner they're trying to rescue manages to gain control of the plane and land it at the airport that's under siege from the terrorists. As we know, McClane intercepts but the terrorists still manage to grab the prisoner. Ok, so far so good...

Now, why didn't the terrorists just drive off with the guy? They have him, why not just hire a private jet, drive the guy to an airstrip and get him to fly to another country? They probably wouldn't have even needed the involvement of the military unit either. I'm sure they could have even returned control of the tower back to the guys of the airport and taken all their equipment with them.

What do they do instead? They ask for a plane in a hanger and hook up with the military unit giving McClane and any law enforcement every opportunity to stop them, as McClane does in the end. This movie could have finished half way through if the terrorists had been written with any sense. I mean the lead terrorist is an ex-military commander. And we're supposed to believe he would make a mistake like that. Well done Hollywood more nonsensical convenient writing.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://moviepanda.blogspot.com/2009/02/movie-logic-die-hard-2.html' title='Movie logic??? Valkyrie is based on true events and is about an assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler during World War 2 by a group of German soldiers trying to save Europe, and in the process Germany from Hitlers grasp.

It has a very strong cast led by Mr. Scientology Tom Cruise. Also in the mix are Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Kenneth Branagh and Eddie Izzard all giving strong performances.

For a movie set in World War 2 it's very far from a war movie, so anyone looking for lots of action will be disappointed. It focuses rather on the plot and the planning and in my opinion is far more interesting watch than if it had been more action orientated. The cinematography and direction is pretty good throughout and at no point does any of the dialogue or acting feel forced. It's an enthralling affair and even though you know how it's going to end you're still shouting for the good guys to succeed.

It's denfinatly aimed at the more intelligent of audiences and is well worth a watch.

I give it 8/10

MoviePanda

Bolt

I got to see this movie a few days before it came out at a free screening by movies.ie, It's the first time I've gone to see a movie with 3D so I was curious to see how this would affect the experience. A lot has been said about 3D movies and how it's the next revolution in cinema, but I can now safely say that in it's current form, it is certainly not the way forward. It does to some degree add a little something to the movie experience but what it adds it takes away pretty quickly. Yes it adds some nice depth to shots but the silly 3D glasses add a dark tint to everything which makes it hard to watch and at times the screen looked slightly blurry. I'm sure that with some little tweaks 3D movies could be a very good thing for cinema but right now it's nothing more than a gimmick.

Now, Onto the movie. Bolt is Disney's latest animated effort. It stars John Travolta and Miley Cyrus as a girl and her dog, who are stars in a hit tv show, only the titular dog Bolt believes it's all real. Eventually Bolt escapes from the tv set and has to experience the real world and a whole host of other animal characters within it. The plot is as simple as you'd expect from any animated movie. The animation, from what I could tell beneath the 3D is solid enough. My biggest problem was the voice acting, it wasn't terrible but at least to me I felt like I was watching a movie with characters voiced by Travolta and Cyrus rather than watching actual self contained characters. There are some other characters in it, a cat called Mittens and a Hamster called Rhino who are far more interesting than the top two on the bill. Also the appearance of several groups of pigeons add quite a few humourous moments.

Overall, it was ok, nothing special but nothing terrible at the same time. The kids will love it but more mature viewers will find themselves wanted something with a bit more depth.

I give this 6/10

MoviePanda

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Preview

I figured I should probably take advantage of the blog feature of movies.ie and post what I suppose you could call a preview of the new Michael Bay film, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

This is obviously the follow up to 2007's rather well received Transformers movie. The plot centered around two warring factions of alien robots trying to find The Allspark, which is what created the Transformers and in the wrong hands could be used to transform earth's technology into a horde of rampaging robots which could then be used to gain control of the whole universe.

I'll start off on the Human cast of 2009's sequel, Revenge of the Fallen. The major players from the first movie are returning. Shia Labeouf, Megan Fox, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro, Kevin Dunn and Julie White all return to their respective roles. Some new faces include Isabel Lucas, Matthew Marsden, Raine Wilson and Ramon Rodriguez.

Details regarding the plot have been held close to the production's chest. Director Michael Bay has said he planned to release false information to confuse the mass of Transformers fans closely following this movies production. First off, the titular Fallen. This could go one of two ways, The Fallen will either be a new character completely that the Autobots and Decepticons must join forces to defeat OR another big possibility is that The Fallen actually refers to the first movies main villain Megatron who, contrary to what has been said by people involved in the movie WILL return for the sequel, most likely revived with the splinter of the Allspark that survived at the end of the first movie.

Ok, onto the all important robot cast. Obviously, we don't know all the details of the robot roster for this movie but we do know a fair bit.

Autobots

Returning: Optimus Prime,Ironhide,Ratchet, Bumblebee

New:

Sideswipe ( Chevy Corvette Centennial Concept)

Jolt ( Chevy Volt, added at the car manufacturers request at the last minute)

Skids ( Chevy Beat)

Mudflap ( Chevy Trax)

*the two robots above, Skids and Mudflap are referred to as The Twins and are likely to be the comic relief amongst the robot cast

Arcee ( will either be a combiner of 3 different custom motorbikes made by RetroSBK or she'll be one of the 3 bikes)

Wheels ( Small remote controlled monster truck)

It's also speculated that Hound might make an appearance as a NEST hummer and Springer may appear as a V-22 Osprey but it's pure rumour at this point.

Decepticons

Returning: Starscream, Megatron(as a Cybertronian tank), Barricade(as an Audi R8), Skorponok(rumour)

New:

Alice (Isabel Lucas' character is a robot inside a human shell referred to as a Pretender)

Jetfire ( A SR71 Blackbird)

Ravage (A mechanical dog/cat, similar in aesthetic to Skorponok form the first movie)

Soundwave (A triple changer at first, Robot mode, Cybertronian jet mode and Cybertronian satellite mode, possibly might reformat to a black pickup)

Devestator (Made of of 6 or 7 robots known as Constructicons, one of which is seen in the new teaser)

It has been stated from a number of sources that there will be around 40 robots in this movie so above is just a small portion of that.

The Superbowl TV spot

http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/transformersrevengeofthefallen/

The full teaser for Revenge of the Fallen is debuting with Platinum Dunes(Michael Bays production company) produced remake of Friday the 13th(at least in the states) which is release unsurprisingly
